Description

The trumpet belongs to the aerophone instrument group.

Description of the instrument

It has a curved and rolled metal cylindrical tube. At one end it has a mouthpiece, and at the other it has a bell-shaped widening that serves to expand the sound. It consists of three pistons that are actuated to give the notes of the scale.

Way of playing

The instrument is held with both hands. The mouthpiece is placed against the lips and they vibrate while blowing.

History

This type of metal instruments with pistons have formed various groups and have toured parties and festivities throughout Euskal Herria for years, playing different music and dances.

The presence of the trumpet has been important since the end of the 19th century in music bands and in later orchestras, brass bands and fanfare.

The most significant groups in our folklore have been those that guided the dances of Lapurdi and Baxe Nabarre.
