Full sheet

The music featured at this concert, which will take place in front of Oiartzun Town Hall (with the event moving indoors in the event of rain), will be perfect for dancing. The line-up includes the group Emari, which emerged from the Oiartzun School of Popular Music, and the Occitan group Farem Tot Petar. Both groups specialise in reviving music and dance melodies drawn from their region’s oral tradition.

Although the concert begins at 12.00, at 11.15 the group Farem Tot Petar will run a workshop to teach some Occitan dances. Afterwards, once those who have taken part in the workshop have caught their breath, the concert will begin and will last approximately one hour.

FAREM TOT PETAR: Music from the Creuse and Limousin (Occitanie)
Instrumental and vocal repertoire – A concert for dancing and/or a party to enjoy

‘Farem Tot Petar’ in Occitan means: ‘Let’s go and smash it all to smithereens!’
This trio will introduce us to the music and culture of the Creuse region. Combining vocals and instruments, they’ll liven up the dance floor and get the dancers’ feet tapping. Their repertoire draws on collections compiled in the Limousin region (mainly from the Creuse), including previously unreleased tracks and dance songs in Occitan.
The instruments (diatonic accordion, violin, banjo, foot-tapping) and vocals will offer us a wide variety of timbres and sounds, which, in their various combinations, will emphasise the characteristic rhythm of this music and the interpretative styles of this region.
Their music spans a wide range of musical styles, as the traditional musicians draw inspiration from them all: swing, classical, contemporary, fusion, Belle Époque, and French songs from the early 20th century and the 1920s.
The melodies to be performed will be introduced through carefully crafted anecdotes. Far from being a historical or folkloric re-enactment, the aim is to offer an encounter with these musicians and to share their musical experience.

The members of the group are:

  • Jean-Jacques Le Creurer: diatonic accordion, violin. One of the leading collectors, experts and preservers of the musical traditions of the Limousin region. He brings a profound, almost encyclopaedic knowledge of the repertoire and regional sources of this music, as well as an original style on the accordion, in which melodic phrasing and dance rhythm are paramount. He has played with the ensembles ‘Rue de la Mauvendière’ and ‘Alamont’. He taught at the conservatoires in Limoges and Creuse, where he founded and headed the traditional music department for some thirty years.
  • Louise Le Creurer: violin, vocals. A professional musician raised in the world of traditional music, she trained and built her career in contemporary music and French chanson. She brings her charisma, her passion and, despite her youth, her artistic maturity and her voice. She is a member of the French chanson ensembles ‘Duo d’Elles’ and ‘Le Petit Bal Perdu’, the vocal trio TsanTa, and several amplified contemporary music groups.
  • Olivier Sulpice: Banjo. Originally a classical guitarist, he discovered traditional music at the age of 14 and taught himself to play the tenor banjo during Irish jam sessions. He turned professional with the chanson/rock group Debout sur le zinc and continued to perform Irish and Breton music at festivals and traditional dances. He subsequently immersed himself fully in the world of music from the French Massif Central region, playing with various dance bands such as Bougnat Sound, Flor de Zinc, Trio des Barreaux Verts, Passant Par Paris and, currently, Farem Tot Petar.

EMARI

This is a new project, set up in 2024 around the Oiartzun folk music school. The group consists of five people; some are folk music teachers, others are students, and they have been playing on the local scene for years, in bars and at traditional dance festivals. They will aim to bring the freshness of folk music to the square, performing pieces from different Basque traditions to get the audience dancing and singing.

EMARI consists of:

  • Amaia Aramendi Goitia: violin, vocals.
  • Manex Pagola Apezetxea: double bass, violin, vocals.
  • Teresa Jareño Kerejeta: alboka, tambourine, clarinet, vocals.
  • Leire Retegi Fernández: txistu, drum, xirula, ttunttun, vocals. [She will not be in Oiartzun on 22 November]
