Description

The swords used by the dancers can be considered directly struck idiophones. In each region they adopt a distinctive aspect.

Way of playing

In the hands of the dancers the swords collide with each other and sound.

History

In some dances, the dantzaris use swords of different sizes and shapes, which are struck and set the rhythm. Sword games and sword dances abound in Basque folklore.
