Description
Hands can be considered as idiophones, since clapping rhythmically can accompany music.
Way of playing
The sound is produced by tapping the palms of the hands against each other.
History
The palms are used in some songs and dances to mark the rhythm of the music, for example, in the dances known as "Esku-dantza". In them, the dancer slaps his hands and those of the other dancers. Father Donostia (1952) includes hands in the group of idiophones in his article on Basque instruments (p. 296).
